Coach Doug Anderson has decided to try
something different. Doug has been the Head Coach for District 279's
adapted sports program since it's inception in 1994. Doug will be
leaving the Osseo school district and will be traveling to sunny Kuwait to
teach there.
As a parent of two of Doug's athletes, I can speak
first-hand to say that program under Doug's leadership had a profound
affect on these young athletes. From the performance side, the
program provided an opportunity for athletes to compete in sports and to
"feel good" about what they were able to achieve. On the
personal side, the program provides a social network, where the athletes
can meet other individuals with their same abilities and interests, that
isn't often available to youths with cognitive disabilities.
Most of us hope that the things we choose to do in our
lives, either through work or through volunteer efforts will have a
positive impact on others. I think anyone who has been involved with
Doug and the program would he agree that he has "Hit a Home Run"
in this area and the positive impact he has had will be carried with these
athletes for rest of their lives.
On behalf of all parents (and athletes) we would like to
say..... "THANK YOU"
Doug!
